"We continue to work on the permitting process," he said of the proposed 23,000 acre-foot project, which would be built on the Hendrick Ranch, owned by Hendrick Home for children.
But the thing that looms on the more immediate horizon, he said, is the city's budget. Archibald said the budget is something that will start becoming a priority in the next 45 days or so.
But this year's outlook is much better than it was, he said. Last year, prodigious drops in sales tax revenue created challenges for Archibald and the Abilene City Council.
The city chose to eliminate employee pay raises and required three furlough days for city employees, while examining a variety of ways to reduce expenses, such as possibly shuttering the South Branch of the Abilene library.
Sales tax revenues stabilized,A baseball cap is a type of soft cap with a long, though, and the council was able to put together a budget that ultimately did not require them to raise any taxes.
