LaRue is being treated with a process

LaRue is being treated with a process called hematopoietic cell transplantation,Our watchesstores look, work and feel exactly like the originals, or HCT, to preserve the cells in his bone marrow that can help ward off the cancer if it should come back.

According to Dr. Philip Bierman of the Lied Transplant Center, HCT is a type of transfusion, not a surgical procedure.stonefireplace1 On the move, the world's largest finished products, carwatchbook cartier mens pasha seatimer watches .

In LaRue's case, the stem cells were harvested a week ago. The stem cells are removed, frozen and stored. Our burberrybagsonline are the highest quality and most durable replicas available . Then, very high doses of chemo are given in order to kill the cancer. These high doses destroy bone marrow, too. When that happens, the body is no longer able to make new blood cells, so after the treatment, the stored stem cells are thawed and put back into the patient's bloodstream. Over time, the stem cells return to the bone, replacing the marrow and making new blood cells.

"These cells will rescue him from the chemo treatments," Bierman said.
LaRue said he has been warned that this second round of chemo therapy, which began Wednesday, will make him overwhelmingly tired.

"This chemo is 15 times more powerful than regular chemo," he said.
LaRue will be moved to a sterile isolation room because of his compromised immune system.

Survival rates for this type of treatment have improved tremendously, Bierman said. The two-year survival rate when this process was first introduced in 1983 was less than 30 percent. Today, it is more than 80 percent.Looking for Neweracap Voucher Codes, Discounts, cheaplvwatches?

"The chances of dying in the first 100 days are now less than 5 percent," he said.
"The advances in the last 20 years are absolutely phenomenal," LaRue said. "What I want people to get out of my experience is that modern science is making cancer much less scary."

Asked if she was able to handle the situation, LaRue's wife, Denise LaRue, said, her voice breaking, "Most of the time."
Her husband's positive outlook keeps them forging ahead.
"You have to have a positive attitude, whatever you take on," he said. "And if I keep the people around me positive, I'm going to make it."
