David Schmidt clinches a stubby cigar between his teeth as he points to some of his favorite items that hang on a wall behind the counter in his store.
When asked what obscure antique gun or tool is his favorite, Schmidt traces over the wall until he arrives at a dark corner near the right edge of the panel. He carefully lifts a long, slim black-powder pistol from its hook.
As he runs his hand over the ancient target pistol, Schmidt explains that it is the craftsmanship that makes the gun his favorite.
“They didn’t have factories back then to make things,” he says. “A gunsmith made every part of this gun.”
