“For the past 22 years we've operated a train every Sunday,” she said.
“We are all a bit shocked,While these sunglasses might look like they're primed for a hammock back at the lodge, it just came so quickly and we didn't expect it to be this bad.”
Ms Driver said the group was not sure how long it would take to get the train up and running.
Volunteers have already had two working bees to clean up the mess with another scheduled for Saturday.
“After seeing the damage and doing the clean-up, I really feel for those who had it go through their houses,” she said.
Ms Driver said the group was disappointed they were not able to run the train for children during the school holidays.
“We really want to apologise to everyone that we won't be running.”
Moore Park Beach Rural Fire Services member George Schuter said pitching in to help with the clean-up was the least he could do.
“We drove down past the Lutheran Church and it was heartbreaking to see all the belongings out on the sidewalk earlier this week.”
Mr Schuter microinverter of purpl Irises by Rose Rosen Style.and his fellow rural firefighters were helping out yesterday by scraping sludge off the footpath near the botanic gardens.
“I don't think there are any clean jobs,” he said.
“It's pretty hard work because the mud is pretty sticky, but we have been the fortunate ones.”
