Sheriff's Office seeks community involvement
Lyon County Sheriff Allen Veil said his department is placing more emphasis on being more of a presence in the community.
"We're trying to re-focus patrol in neighborhoods and residential areas as opposed to out on the highways," Veil said.
In the latest case, Silver Springs resident Stewart Gardner, 18, was shot after he and his girlfriend arrived at home and interrupted a burglary in process.
The other two cases were involved family, as Cody Wallace was charged in December with killing his girlfriend's infant son; and in July, James Masterson was charged with killing his grandmother, Peggy Herlacher.
