Drugs and £4,100 watches seized in Hyndburn raid


CANNABIS and £4,100 worth of stolen watches were seized when police swooped on four homes in Hyndburn.

Around 50 officers from Accrington police station were involved in the raids as part of Operation Titan, targeting suspected drug dealers and organised crime gangs in the borough.

Two men were arrested, one on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and the other for allegedly obstructing police.

Further raids took place at houses in Albert Street and Edmund Street, Accrington.

Sergeant Simon Holderness of Accrington Police, said: “This operation has demonstrated to the local community that we have acted on intelligence from them to disrupt drugs activity in the area.

“If anyone has information about those involved in the sale and supply of drugs, I would urge them get in touch with us by speaking to a local officer if possible.

“All the information passed to us will be investigated and treated in strict confidence.”

Members of the community also hailed the operation a success.

Denice Coxhead, a hospital support worker who has lived in Lime Avenue for 33 years, said: “The police have done an absolutely marvellous job today and I hope that things will change now.”
