Rider Nation loyal to the bitter end

For the first time Sunday, the lifelong Saskatchewan Roughriders fan covered his face in green and white paint to go with his similarly coloured wig and green Riders football jersey.

He decided to pull out all the stops in cheering on his team, which lost 21-18 against the Montreal Alouettes in the Grey Cup final at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton.

"I'm a diehard Riders fan and I thought why not go all the way," said Gammie, originally from Melfort, Sask., who took in the game at Bob The Fish, a well-established Rider haven on 17th Avenue S.W.

"I've watched games here before, this is a Rider bar.covert spy camera It's a good place for us to watch games together.

"There's like 250,000 of us in Calgary.compact fluorescent light That's a lot of green and white. So it makes sense we have a place like this."

While Rider fans flocked to Edmonton in an attempt to make the Grey Cup feel like a home game, some chose to stay away due to superstition over Saskatchewan's infamous loss last year, that resulted from a too many men on the field penalty.

"We figured if we're not at the game this year they would win," said Nonie Heinrich, cctv cameras originally from Davidson, apparel Sask., who attended the 2009 Grey Cup at McMahon Stadium. "It's all karma."

Heinrich and her friend Jennifer O'Carroll of Regina contributed to the green theme at Bob The Fish with Riders jerseys, a 2007 Grey Cup champion banner and a stuffed Gainer the Gopher mascot sitting on the table.

They bristled at the suggestion made by many fans of other CFL teams that Rider fans are the most irritating.

"The Rider fans are the true fans of the CFL,lacosteshoes123" said Heinrich.

"It doesn't matter whether the team is winning or losing, they're out there cheering for their team, and sure it might be annoying, but that's what you do as a fan. You annoy the opposition, you annoy the opposite fans because that's how you give your team energy."

It was difficult to find any Alouettes fans watching Sunday's Grey Cup matchup in Calgary's sports bars. But a few Calgary Stampeders supporters were out in red vocally cheering against the Riders.
